“Like Humans go through an ever evolving process, so does the acts of them and technology is one of those acts”
Many have said this before and I too believe on that “Like Humans go through an ever evolving process, so does the acts of them and technology is one of those acts”. This year Asus has proved this point by taking the first step towards that evolving process and the result is their new phone, Asus Zenfone Zoom, launched on the 22nd of this month in Agra – City of Love.
Asus has been pioneers of coming up with first cell phone with 4GB RAM i.e Asus Zenfone 2, which ruled the cell phone market last year. This year again believing on themselves and maintaining the tag of “Being the First” they have come up with first phone to have camera with 3X Optical zoom, which gives this phone its nomenclature Asus Zenfone Zoom.
Its been five days and I have been using Asus Zenfone Zoom as my daily phone, and it has truly impressed me. Powered by Quad Core 64 Intel Atom processor, running on operating system Asus ZenUI under Android 5.0(Lollipop), it looks quite hassle free, though at the time when Marsh mallow has already arrived in market this would surely raise some eye brows, but yes Lollipop has its own sweetness, it just melts and leaves behind a punch of power, Old is gold and it is still shining as ever. I din’t found any lag yet in handling the apps.
Here at this point I would like to confess that I am not a gaming guy, but yes when it comes to testing the speed of a cell phone I do take help of some games, any car game or even Temple run and subway surfer is more than sufficient to tell you power of phone, whether it can handle this fast pace of life of any common man or it would leave him in the middle of nowhere, and in this front too Asus Zenfone Zoom came up as a winner, it was fast and smooth, thanks to the 4GB RAM which provides base to processor to enable Zenfone Zoom in delivering top notch performance.
First Impressions : Look and Feel of Asus Zenfone Zoom
Well this an interesting part, to be honest Asus Zenfone Zoom does have that appeal which attracts any common man. Just after some 12 hours of the launch of Asus Zenfone Zoom in Agra, I was clicking magnificient Taj Mahal on the 23rd morning and suddenly I overheard somebody talking of me, oh sorry I was just the supporting actor in the talk, main lead was played by Asus Zenfone Zoom. Two guys not much far from me were talking “Yaar is bande ke hath mai ye kaunsa phone hai, kuch different camera lag raha hai iska, peeche ka shape dekh(Bro which phone this guy is holding, has quite different camera, look at back hump)”
Asus Zenfone Zoom looks similar to other phones of Asus from the front, but from the back it is altogether different. With fine hand stitched leather back, it gives a luxurious feel and then circular hump of camera on the back adds glitter to it.
“Cheez ki kadar karoge wo apki kadar karegi”
Weighing around 185 grams, 5.5 inch 1920*1080 Full HD display, both these factors gives it a big brother feeling, but this bigness becomes fractional when it comes to grip of the phone. It is one of the slimmest smart phone in the market, thanks to the designing section of Asus who has designed it so well that it fits well in the palm and is easy to hold. Leather back provides a sturdy grip to the hand, but yes it doesn’t mean one becomes careless. Don’t forget one thing “Cheez ki kadar karoge wo apki kadar karegi”, Asus Zenfone Zoom after all these goodness factors does become bit slippery in hand, thanks to the sleek and smooth curved edges.
First Impressions : Camera
Well this is the main front of the camera though being on the back side of it. It is the camera which gave this phone its nomenclature Asus Zenfone “Zoom”.
If we go by the words of Asus Ceo Jerry Shen “We tried to design a smartphone with very powerful photography experience,” Shen explained. “When we review the history, Samsung also had a smartphone with 3X optical zoom, but Samsung’s smartphone was like a camera with smartphone features because their optical zoom is this way raises hand above the phone’s surface, but our lens is this way points inside the phone”.
Asus Zenfone Zoom has a 13 mega pixel back and 5 mega pixel front camera, built by Hoya. A 10 element lens, fixed in such a way that being 3X optical zoom it doesn’t protrude out from the hump on the back, which makes it slimmest phone with this feature.
The Asus ZenFone Zoom still looks like a smartphone, instead of resembling a camera that had phone features thrown in as an afterthought.
I know this single pic would not convince you in reaching to a point where one can say “Asus Zenfone Zoom is one of best camera phone”, if I would have been at this place I would surely waited for a full camera review. Same thing I am doing, guys wait some days and full camera review would be present at your door step with some amazing clicks from this awesome phone camera.
Some More of Asus Zenfone Zoom : Battery and Memory
Before reaching to final verdicts it would be very unjust if I don’t talk about some special features of this special creation by Asus The Mr.Special Asus Zenfone Zoom.
In the fast life of now a days, when power banks in hand has also become a necessity, this phone comes with Fast Charging technique just like Asus Zenfone 2. Its 3000 mah battery for me lasted more than a day, which is obvious, as my some works are done on this and some on Asus Zenpad 7.0. For some game and net freaks this battery won’t last all day, so whats the solution. Well here comes the magic wand of Asus charger for Asus Zenfone zoom, which charges the battery 0-60% in just 10 minutes, is in it wow.
Well “Ab baat chidi hai to duur tak jayegi”, talking again of those Games crazy people and people suffering from selfie fever, memory of a phone is big factor. Here also Asus Zenfone Zoom would be a soother in their life which comes in two variants with 64GB and 128 GB inbuilt memory and and, and one can add Micro SD card too upto 64gb in this power beast.
Final Words of My Greedy Backpack : Moral of Story, My Verdict.
I am sure one would have surely thought off while reading this review “Why to go for this, if we can get a 3X Optical zoom digital camera in fraction of its price?”, Well my take on this is, you are not buying a Camera or phone while buying Asus Zenfone Zoom, one is buying an experience, a luxury, an ease of having a camera cum cell phone which can work like a PC.
At price of Rs 37,999 I know it nowhere lands in a category of Budget or Affordable phones, but yes its features has given it freedom, that it can be a day to day phone of anybody, whether you are photographer like me or just a person having some white collar job.
